What is Marker?

Marker is an AI-native Word Processor – a reimagining of Google Docs and Microsoft Word.

What you'll do at Marker

• Build web user interfaces using React/Next.js and TypeScript
• Contribute to our real-time collaborative backend (Cloudflare Workers, TypeScript, CRDTs, PostgreSQL)
• Define, architect, implement and deliver features end to end, from conception to production
• Be a part of the early founding team to guide the future of our products and company at large

Are you a good fit for this role?

In order to be successful in this role, you will recognise yourself in the following:

• You have at least a few years of experience building products for the web using React
• You're not afraid contributing to Typescript codebases
• You're familiar with some of the other technologies in our stack (see below)
• You have a user-focused product mindset and good design sensibilities
• You are interested in learning about generative AI technologies
• You are interested in building innovative user interfaces requiring creativity, problem-solving and research

An exceptional candidate for this role would be able to demonstrate some of the following:

• Experience with building advanced Rich Text Editing interfaces
• Experience with collaborative real-time technologies (CRDTs, Y.js, sync engines, etc.)
• Experience building production-grade local-first or offline-first applications
• Experience using LLMs in production, especially multi-agentic systems
• Interest in writing (fiction, non-fiction, essays)

However, you are NOT expected to:

• Be an expert in AI, NLP, or Machine Learning
• Be a designer — you'll be working together with our CPO and designer Ryan Bowman
• Be experienced with every library and product in our stack from day one — you'll work closely with our engineering lead Jani Eväkallio to learn the ropes
• Have a degree in Computer Science — we value practical experience over credentials

Our stack

You'll be working with the following technologies:

• Frontend: React, TypeScript, Tailwind
• Text Editor: Tiptap, ProseMirror
• Backend: Cloudflare Workers, PostgreSQL
• Realtime Sync: CRDTs with Y.js
• Future plans: Electron and other technologies to be determined together

You'll also have the opportunity to learn and contribute to the backend technologies that power the AI magic behind Marker.

Our AI engine uses a cutting edge agentic approach with models ranging from open source fine-tuned systems to the latest reasoning models from Anthropic and OpenAI.
